Boston Bruins could trade Brad Marchand, per reports

Brad Marchand has spent his entire career with the Boston Bruins and now serves as the team’s captain. However, his future with the organization remains uncertain. A new report about Marchand is now leaving fans stunned.

Marchand is currently preparing for the 4 Nations Face-Off, where Team Canada will compete against the USA, Finland, and Sweden in what promises to be an exciting tournament.

It’s the first time since 2016 that the NHL’s best players will compete in an international event, and Marchand said earlier this week that he’s “so thrilled” to be a part of it—even joking that he would have been happy just filling water bottles for the other players if he weren’t playing.

Brad Marchand’s uncertain future

But when it comes to Marchand’s future in Boston, there are serious questions to be asked. He has been one of the faces of the franchise for over a decade, never playing for another NHL team. However, over the past year, his name has surfaced in trade rumors, with speculation that the Boston Bruins might be open to moving him. The Bruins’ front office hasn’t outright denied the possibility of a trade, and now, RG reports that interest in Marchand is growing.
“They’re getting calls on [Marchand], and teams are wondering what they’re going to do here, but at this point, I think they’re just listening,” an NHL executive source told RG. “Still, the fact that the Bruins or Marchand haven’t come right out and squashed this like they have in the past is telling. With things also being so quiet on contract talks, it tells you this is getting real.”

Brad Marchand’s own words

Although a trade seems unlikely at the moment, things could change.
“The fact they’re listening, though, means that if they can’t find common ground over this break, it becomes more than listening when they return from break.”

After a game in January, Marchand was asked about the trade speculation and made it clear that his only focus is taking things “day by day.”
“They (Bruins’ hockey operations department) are going to do what they feel is necessary for the team,” Marchand said.
“All we can do is worry about our play. We can’t control any decision that is going to be made. I’m not really worried about what’s being said in the media. At the end of the day, like I said, they’re going to make the decisions for the group they feel necessary. I have no control over that, so I’m going to worry about what’s going on here—playing for this group. As long as I’m here on the Boston Bruins, that’s all I’m worrying about.”
