Andrew Ference breaks silence on Bruins’ legendary bar tab

On June 15, 2011, the Boston Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to end a 39-year championship drought. It wouldn’t have been right if they hadn’t partied hard afterward. And according to some photo evidence, they certainly did.

The Bruins decided to spend the night at Shrine nightclub at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

They didn’t hold back on the beverages that night. According to a now-legendary photo of the bar tab, the Bruins spent $156,000 on drinks alone.

The photo has been posted on social media many times over the years, with many highlighting some of the hilarious details, like how only one Corona was ordered the whole night.

But the most notable item on the tab was the purchase of a rare 30-liter bottle of Armand de Brignac champagne, called the Ace of Spades “Midas” bottle. The champagne alone cost $100,000.

It’s not often that players from that Bruins team talk about the night, but when a photo of the tab went viral again on an Instagram page, one of the players, Andrew Ference, actually replied, confirming that the bill was indeed that high.

‘Can confirm. Was a legendary night,’ he wrote.

Andrew Ference also commented on rumors that Zdeno Chara, the former captain of the Bruins, paid the whole tab. When someone asked about it, he first responded with a ‘Face with Tears of Joy’ emoji, then said, ‘No.’
