Andrei Vasilevskiy slammed for unsportsmanlike behavior

Before this season, Amazon secured the rights to broadcast Canadian NHL games on Monday nights. The stream not only includes the game but also a 45-minute pre-game show. And those who tuned in last night weren’t disappointed, as Tampa Bay Lightning’s superstar goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy decided to provoke an opponent.

Goalies aren’t typically the most provocative players on the ice, and they rarely engage with opponents during warmups.

But last night, Vasilevskiy gave a big snow shower to Morgan Rielly, who was stretching near the center line. The Maple Leafs and the Lightning are division rivals, so it’s fair to assume that Vasilevskiy acted intentionally.

However, the Toronto Maple Leafs had the last laugh, and some might even say karma caught up with Vasilevskiy.

After just 14 shots, the Maple Leafs had scored four goals, prompting head coach Jon Cooper to pull Vasilevskiy from the game midway through the second period. It was only the 13th time in 471 starts that Vasilevskiy was pulled early. Toronto went on to win the game, 5-2.
