Alexander Ovechkin went goalless for his fifth straight following the 3-2 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights last night. The Russian star still needs two goals to reach 700 NHL career goals in his quest to become the eight player in NHL history to reach the milestone.
“Of course, you want to get (700) over with and move forward, but if you didn’t score you just move it forward,” Ovechkin said according to The Hockey News Saturday night. “You can’t be focusing and thinking like, ‘Oh, I didn’t score. It’s over.’ Sooner or later it will come.”
In his four last games, Ovechkin had 53 shot attempts and 25 shots on goal, recording 4 shots on goal and a total 8 attempts last night against the Vegas Golden Knights.
However, the Caps’ forward showed the crowd at T-Mobile Arena he can do more than just shoot.
In the third period with the game tied at two, Ovechkin catched up with former teammate Nate Schmidt. Ovechkin threw The Golden Knights’ blueliner over the boards with a huge hit towards the tunnel to the dressing room.
The two shared a laugh on the ice about the situation shortly afterwards.
Representing Washington Capitals for four seasons, Schmidt left for the Golden Knights in the NHL expansion draft in 2017.He has 28 points in 48 games this season.
