Alex Ovechkin has cemented his place in NHL history as the greatest goal scorer of all time. His chase of Wayne Gretzky‘s record has thrilled fans for years, and this season, he’s outdone himself—scoring over 40 goals at age 39, despite suffering a broken leg early in the season.
He moved into the No. 1 spot on the all-time goals list this past weekend, scoring career goal No. 895 against the New York Islanders. Since then, the hockey world has been showering him with praise and appreciation. But Budweiser decided to take a different approach—by celebrating the goalies who never let him score.

The beer company sent specially made commemorative cans to all 28 goalies who faced Alex Ovechkin and didn’t allow a goal. One of the former NHLers who received one was Curtis Joseph.
‘CuJo’ was the only Vezina Trophy–nominated goalie on the list, and when he got his can, he shared it on social media, writing:
“Congrats to the greatest goal scorer of all time @ovi8. Feeling very lucky to have NOT been a part of it! 2 shots, 0 goals.”
No one expected Alex Ovechkin to respond—especially since he hadn’t made a single non-promotional post in years. But he didn’t disappoint.
“Thx u!! I probably score goal on next shot but u retired !!” Ovechkin replied.
Not only is he the greatest goal scorer in NHL history—he’s also a master of chirps. You just gotta love Alex Ovechkin!
