Sidney Crosby is more than just a great hockey player. He’s a role model, a leader, and, overall, just a great person.
And during the Penguins pre-season, where some games took place in Crosby’s hometown, Halifax, Nova Scotia, he showed exactly why he’s one of the world’s most popular and universally well-liked hockey players.
It was special for Crosby to play in Halifax, and he made sure to salute the fans after playing the Ottawa Senators in front of a packed stands. But for one supporter, it was a weekend to remember forever.
Halifax resident Veronica Murray is a 93-year-old super fan of Sidney Crosby, and thanks to We Are Young, a group that grants wishes to seniors, she got an opportunity to watch Sid the Kid play and have some one-on-one time with him.
It just so happened that Veronica Murray was a friend and neighbor to Crosby’s late grandmother. Despite that, Murray hadn’t had the chance to actually meet her favorite hockey player until now.
”He’s a very nice man and very nice to talk to,” Veronica Murray said to CTV News.
”I never thought I’d see the day when I would meet him.”
Veronica Murray met Crosby at a Penguins’ practice. Gary Murray, son of Veronica, nominated his Mom and was thrilled to see how friendly Crosby was.
“He was just so down to earth. He talked with her for 15, 20 minutes,” said Gary.
“I think he was really thrilled to have someone that was friends with his grandmother,” he continued.
Veronica and Sid the Kid also talked about Sid’s grandmother.
“We talked about her. He said, she could be very grumpy,” Veronica said, laughing.
Respect to Sidney Crosby. What a fantastic gesture!
