There’s something very special about a great hockey chirp, and it’s even better when it involves two of the biggest legends in hockey history. Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur has now revealed what Patrick Roy said to him at a country club not too long ago, and it’s honestly too awesome.
Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur are widely acknowledged as two of the best goalies in NHL history. Brodeur is first in league history in wins, while Patrick Roy sits at third. Brodeur is also first in games played, with Roy sitting at fourth.
Patrick Roy won three Vezina Trophies during his incredible career, but Brodeur won one more. Both were simply amazing goalies, but also masters of the chirp.
Patrick Roy’s awesome chirp
On the latest episode of The Cam & Strick Podcast, Martin Brodeur shared how Patrick Roy awesomely chirped him at a country club just weeks before Roy took the job as the new head coach of the New York Islanders.
“Last winter, I’m in Florida,” Brodeur said on the podcast. “My buddy invites me to this country club for dinner. I sit down, and Patrick’s a member there. He’s sitting with a couple of his buddies and his girlfriend. He gets up and says, ‘Hey Marty! Long time no see. What’s going on?'”
“A week later, he got the job [with the Islanders], but he never said a word to me. Just being nice [before I left], I get up and say, ‘Hey, it was nice seeing you,’ and I shake his hand. He says, ‘Let me introduce you to my girlfriend. This is Martin Brodeur, the second-best goalie in the world.’ I thought it was the funniest thing.”
