With the NHL season winding down, we can’t forget that the World Hockey Championship will take place in May of 2018. Teams with players who failed to make the playoffs often get an invite from their respective countries to participate, but Canada may have struck gold.
While many players often take the summer off once their team is eliminated from the playoffs or playoff contention, it isn’t out of the norm to see high-profile talent represent their country. Matt Duchene represented Canada last year, with a team that also saw Mitch Marner, Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux lace up their skates.
However, this year, Canada may once again land one of the NHL’s best: Connor McDavid.
During an interview with Hockeysverige, Oscar Klefbom (Connor’s teammate) said, “I know that Connor will go (to the World Championships) and I think Nugent-Hopkins will go as well.”
If this is true, Canada just became a whole lot stronger heading into the World Championships.
This wouldn’t be the first World Championships for McDavid. In 2016 Connor tallied 9 points in 10 games.
