Wayne Gretzky picks the six best hockey players of all time, excludes himself from the incredible dream team

There’s not much to say about Wayne Gretzky that isn’t already said about him. He’s undoubtedly the best player in hockey history, and some of his incredible records will never, ever be broken.

Whenever a player in the NHL sets a new franchise record or puts up good numbers, they’re still way behind Wayne Gretzky. For example:
Last year, Mitch Marner became the 12th different player in NHL history with a point streak of 23 games or more. Well, Wayne Gretzky also had a 23+ games streak… seven(!) times.

Wayne Gretzky is the undisputed GOAT, and if you’re the goat, it’s fair to assume that you know a thing or two about hockey and the game’s history.

Some years ago, during the NHL’s 100-year celebration, Gretzky was asked to pick his six favorite players of all time. He could pick any players he wanted from all time, starting with the goalie, then defensemen, and then forwards. To say that it’s a great team would be an understatement.

Goalie:
Grant Fuhr

D-men:
Bobby Orr, Paul Coffey

Forwards:
Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Jean Beliveau

The most controversial pick in Gretzky’s dream-six is perhaps that Mario Lemieux, by many considered the second-best player of all time behind Gretzky, is missing. But hey, you can’t really argue with that line.

When Gretzky picked his dream players, many also argued that Grant Fuhr didn’t deserve the place in goal. Grant Fuhr played with Wayne Gretzky in the Oilers during the 80s, and in 1988, he won the Vezina Trophy.

He also won five Stanley Cups, and to nobody’s surprise, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. Many, however, believe Dominik Hasek is the GOAT of goalies and deserved the spot in Gretzky’s dream team.
