It’s always incredibly entertaining when NHL stars go on long point streaks. It’s rare for players to even get into the double digits of point-streak games, but it do happen. But nothing compares to Wayne Gretzky.
Every time there’s talk about long point streaks in the NHL, it has fans wondering about The Great One and and his point streaks during his amazing career. And as it turns out, players like William Nylander, who had points in his first 17 games to start the season, has a long way to go if they ever want to beat The Great One. And to be frank; he’s probably never going to be beaten.
Wayne Gretzky’s longest point streak was for 51 games, from Oct. 1983 – Jan. 27, 1984.
Second on the longest point streak in NHL history is Mario Lemieux, with 46 games.
What’s so remarkable is that Gretzky’s longest streak is just five games longer, but he had 50 more points than Mario.
Gretzky scored 61 goals and 153 points over the 51-game span as he led Edmonton to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.
Wayne Gretzky is also No. 3, 4, and 6 on the list, with 39, 30, and 28 games. Tied for fourth, with Gretzky, is Mats Sundin, who scored 21 goals and 46 points over the 30 games with the Nordiques.
