Erik Karlsson is absolutely flying right now. After a couple of tough years, when he’s been mocked and labeled as ”finished,” he’s playing the best hockey of his career.
When Erik Karlsson was at his peak, you weren’t surprised to see his name at the top of the points-by-a-defenseman list. But this season, he’s on an entirely different level, and he’s actually just four points behind Connor McDavid in scoring.
Last night, in San Jose Sharks’ matchup against the Vancouver Canucks, Karlsson was one of the best players on the ice and recorded two assists. But he also got the fans’ attention for other things than scoring points.
When Erik Karlsson dominated for the Ottawa Senators, you always saw him doing daring dekes at the blue line. Against the Canucks, he showed he’s still got it
Erik Karlsson had the puck in the offensive zone, and instead of shooting the puck, he humiliated opponent Sheldon Dries with a breathtaking deke. Dries didn’t stand a chance as the puck slipped between his legs.
”Erik Karlsson continues to be on another level,” wrote Bleacher Report on Twitter.
Erik Karlsson nearly scored right after the deke, but his shot hit the helmet of the Vancouver goalie. Erik Karlsson’s two points put him at 32 points in just 24 games this campaign.
Karlsson’s two points didn’t help the Sharks to win, as the Canucks won 4-3 in OT.
