Marc-André Fleury is just an awesome guy. He’s one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, but he’s also one of the most popular players in the league, and everyone who’s played with him confirms just how awesome he is to have in the locker room.
Fleury is a three-time Stanley Cup Winner and a Vezina Trophy winner.
But he’s also known for being a great prankster who always has something up his sleeve.
To play a Game 7 of a Stanley Cup Final is every hockey player’s big dream. And if you’re there, you usually don’t focus on anything else. But Marc-André Fleury isn’t like any other player.
While preparing for Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final, Fleury wanted to take a pregame nap at his hotel in Detroit. There was just one problem.
”In the room next to him, several people were partying. They were loud, drinking and playing music, and the noise caused Fleury to toss and turn for two hours before the most important game of his life,” The Athletic wrote.
Fleury didn’t get much sleep, so he decided to take revenge.
”At 3:45, Fleury put on his suit, but before heading to the team bus, he took a waste basket, filled it with water, leaned it on the door of the room next to him, banged on the door, sprinted down the hallway and, just as he turned the corner, he heard the door open av somebody scream.”
The Athletic wrote: ”Yes, before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, Fleury played an epic prank on a complete stranger in the next room.”
So, how did the game turn out? In the dying seconds of the game, Fleury made a miraculous game-saving stop on Nicklas Lidström to seal the victory for the Penguins. It was the Penguins’ first Stanley Cup in 17 years, and Fleury played a huge part in it. But he still had time to pull off one of his classic pranks.
