Several teams are bringing back jerseys we all loved in the 90s this season. Winnipeg Jets had a ’90s retro night on Monday but didn’t stop at just the jerseys. They did everything 90s, and before the game, classic ’90s songs like ”Butterfly” by the band Crazy Town was playing.
They also had some awesome old-school graphics on the scoreboard, really turning back the clock.
The anthem singer of the night was Danny Greaves, lead singer of The Watchmen, one of Canada’s biggest bands in the mid-’90s.
The Jets also had some trivia questions for their fans on the scoreboard. They, for example, wrote, ”Finish the names of these shows,” followed by ”Saved by the____,” ”Full _____ ,” and ”Fresh _____ Of ____ ____.”
The Jets also handed out free fanny packs in true ’90s fashion to the first 5,000 people through the doors.
But the coolest thing of all was related to the legendary game ”NHL ’94.” It’s an ice hockey game made by EA Sports for the Genesis, Super NES, and Sega DC. The game was released in October 1993 and is considered one of the greatest sports games of all time. Many remember the game for former NHL player Jeremy Roenick, as he was listed as one of the best players in the game, and he certainly played like it.
And as the Jets arranged their big ’90s night, it was only appropriate that NHL ’94 had some part of it. But it was way cooler than anyone could’ve expected.
The Jets beamed NHL ’94 onto the ice surface for a virtual game. It looked awesome, and they deserve real credit for their incredible effort.
