Moritz Seider had some tough completion in the Calder Memorial Trophy this summer. Trevor Zegras charmed every hockey fan last season, but nobody can say that Moritz Seider wasn’t the deserved winner.

The young German defenseman was drafted sixth in the 2019 NHL Draft but made his debut in the league last year. And what a year it was. Detroit Red Wings had high expectations for Seider, and he exceeded them all.
Seider led all rookies in assists with 43, power-play points with 21, and average time on ice with 23:03. He was the first Detroit Red Wings player in more than five decades to win the Calder, and together with young stars like Lucas Raymond, he’s destined to take the Red Wings to new heights.

Moritz Seider is now a year older, and expectation hasn’t decreased. He’ll be one of the Red Wings’ most important players this year, and he’s already showing some decent form.
In the Red Wings’ pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he had over 24 minutes on the ice and an assist in the 3-2 loss. But it was something else he did that caught the fans’ attention.
During the game, a Pens player lobbed the puck out of their end, and it looked like it was going over Seider and in the Red Wings zone. Seider, however, jumped high as a proper NBA player to take the puck, and although he fell after the ice, he was quick to get up and take control of the puck.
It’s not something you see every day, but you must admire Seider’s incredible athleticism.
