This year’s playoffs have been a joy to watch if you love huge hits. We’re not even past the first round yet, but we’ve already seen some of the best hits all season.
Every night, there seems to be a new player that just demolishes an opponent. Perhaps it’s because the fans are finally back in the NHL arenas during the playoffs and driving their players on, unlike previous years when the pandemic stopped fans. The physical play is a massive part of the playoffs, and it’s starting to show with all these hits.
Last night, Marcus Foligno became the next player to put himself on the list with hits of year candidates. During Game 5 in the series between the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues, Blues player Jordan Kyrou had the puck in the defensive zone when Foligno came at full speed from his left.
The hit was as clean as it gets, and Kyrou had no chance of standing his ground. Foligno sent Kyrou back to St. Louis with the impact, and it also led to the Wild obtaining the puck in the offensive zone. Joel Eriksson-Ek quickly took care of the puck and was even close to scoring straight away.
A goal would’ve put the Wild up 3-1 in the game. But instead, the Blues could turn the game around and eventually won 5-2. The Blues now leads the series, 3-2.
