Jonathan Quick was pulled as the Kings lost 8-2 against Edmonton on Friday. But last night, he was back with style, putting up one of the best efforts this playoff.
He stopped all 31 shots he faced as the Kings won Game 4 with 4-0, tying the series to 2-2. This was Quick’s 10th playoff shutout of his career, and he made some amazing saves for it. The most spectacular saves came in the second period.
Quick lost his glove and waved at the officials to get a whistle. But the officials let the game go on, and Quick was forced to three saves without a glove. One of the saves came from a close effort from Oilers forward Evander Kane that Quick knocked down with his blocker. Just seconds earlier, Quick had saved a shot from Kailer Yamamoto with his bare hand, redirecting the puck up into the crossbar and out.
We still can’t figure out how Quick managed to rob Edmonton of a goal, and the sequence is one of the most impressive individual performances this year. The series between the Kings and the Oilers are tied to 2, with Game 5 playing in Edmonton on Tuesday.
