There’s no denying that Leon Draisaitl is one of the best players in the world. He often gets overlooked. That can happen when you’re playing with Connor McDavid.
Still, he finished the season with the second-most goals behind Auston Matthews, and he was the first player since Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, in 1995-96, to record more than 55 goals and 55 assists in the same season.
He finished fourth in the league in points and should perhaps get more recognition from the hockey world. But Draisaitl is not only known for his incredible skills on the ice.
He’s also known to have a spicy temper. This season, he was involved in two incidents that made fans go crazy. After getting the puck stolen, he got a nutshot in on Aliaksei Protas in February. And just two months earlier, he did the same thing against Kirill Kaprizov.
And last night, in the Oilers’ series-opener against the LA Kings, Draisaitl was back with another cheap shot.
Draisaitl tied the game, 3-3, with nine minutes played of the second. Then, he got angry at Sean Durzi and slashed him hard on the ankle as he celebrated a power-play goal.
It’s still unclear what Sean Durzi had done to upset Draisaitl, and no penalty was called on the play.
Durzi, however, got the last laugh as he had the primary assist when LA Kings scored the winning goal in overtime.
