Milan Lucic is not shy when it comes to breathtaking hits. He never backs down for anyone and loves handing out a huge open ice-hit. Some years ago, Lucic was voted one of the NHL’s toughest players, and last night, in the awesome game between the Flames and the Predators, he showed exactly why.
The Predators had a 4-3 lead with just minutes to go when Matt Duchene approached the offensive zone. He didn’t have the puck, but that didn’t stop Milan Lucic, who demolished Milan Lucic with a huge hit. Duchene’s helmet went flying, and you can only imagine how much the hit would’ve hurt him. Lucic is rock-hard, and he didn’t exactly take it easy with the hit, and Duchene had some trouble getting up from the ice.
Mark Borowiecki immediately came to Duchene’s defense as he skated over and threw his gloves just in front of Lucic. But after that, nothing happened, and Lucic just had to go to the penalty box for a minor interference.
Lucic and Borowiecki threw their gloves in the first period for a fight, and Lucic won that one. So it’s understandable that Borowiecki perhaps didn’t want a replay of that one.
The Flames killed off the late power-play call, and with the extra attacker on the ice, they even tied things up. With just 0.1 seconds on the clock, Tkachuk tied the game at 4-4, and in overtime, Hampus Lindholm gave the Flames a 5-4 win.
