The 1998 Olympic Winter Games was the first featuring NHL players, but for the United States Men’s Hockey Team, the tournament was a huge letdown.
The team featured superstars such as Mike Modano, Tony Amonte, Brett Hull, and Jeremy Roenick, but the U.S won only one game, against Belarus in the group stage.
The U.S. team lost the first game, against Sweden, and then again to Canada, 4-1, before falling to the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. The tournament was a disappointment, but the U.S. team made people happy before it all happened and went into the games.
David Letterman, the host of the legendary talk show Letterman, teamed up with some of the Hockey Olympic teams’ star players to deliver ten of the best pick-up lines for hockey players.
In the sketch, ten different players come at the camera and tell fantastic pick-up lines as:
” Ever kissed a guy with no teeth?”
” You’re my only chance to score more than Gretzky.”
” My wife calls med Gordie Wowe.”
You have to say, even though the tournament itself was a disappointment, this sure was a good time.
YouTube has removed the video, but here’s the transcript:
