We all know Alexander Ovechkin can party. Following the Caps’ Stanley Cup win in 2018, the Russian star made sure to begin the celebration on the ice in Vegas.
“Get some beers, get some whatever, and start celebrating!,” he told Hockey Canada.
After celebrating of the Caps first Stanley Cup win in franchise history in the locker room, “Ovi” took it to a whole new level with an epic party.
It ended with him doing keg stands out of the Cup and swimming with his teammates in a fountain at Georgetown Waterfront.
On June 8th, Ovechkin celebrated the two year anniversary of the Stanley Cup win, posting a video on his Instagram page.
This year however, they didn’t get to celebrate hockey wise. The Capitals failed to advance out of the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year after a 4-1 series loss to the Islanders.
Ovechkin’s been back in Russia for the last couple of weeks, watching some KHL hockey and visiting youth hockey players.
On September 17th, Ovi turned 35. And he made sure to also celebrate his birthday in style.
His birthday party was held at Orion Hall, a concert venue in Moscow, according to Russian Machine Never Breaks.
Ilya Kovalchuk, Dmitry Orlov and Penguins rival Evgeni Malkin all were there. And now, videos from the event shows it was one heck of a party.
Before entering, guests had the opportunity to take photos in front of a huge LED screen. Inside, Ovechkin greeted the attendees by walking in through a cloud of pyro with live music playing.
A video featuring highlights of Ovechkin’s career was shown on a big screen, and teammates Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom had pre-recorded birthday greetings played.
“I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday,” Backstrom said according to Russian Machine Never Breaks. “I hope you’re having a great day and obviously a great party. Have a beer for me and see you soon.”
The Great 8 sure knows how to party, and as the lovely son he is, he also invited his mom up on the dance floor.
