The NHL and the NHLPA are making progress in talks over restarting the season, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.
A 24-team playoff format is being discussed. However, it would not jump straight into the postseason since players have pushed for regular season games to be played if the NHL would resume.
Earlier, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman have said that canceling the season was “not something I’m even contemplating.”
Even though many players probably can’t wait to get the season going again, some aren’t as positive.
Speaking to Czech media CT Sport, Washington Capitals star Radko Gudas slams the NHL for even thinking about finishing the season.
“Money is money, that’s what currently makes the world go around. It’s a bit sad they are willing to risk the health of so many players because of money”, Gudas said.
If the NHL would finish its season in empty arenas, the league would lose its charm and atmosphere, Gudas adds. In his mind there’s no other option than to cancel the season.
The NHL stopped players from representing their countries in the 2018 Olympics. According to Gudas, that makes the discussion over potentially resuming the season even more strange.
“Hockey would probably be the only team sport trying to push through like this. They won’t let us go to the Olympics so we won’t get injured, but they want to keep the NHL season running in these times”, Gudas tells CT Sport.
