Tom Wilson is known for playing the game pretty old school. This season, the 220 pound Caps’ winger has been involved in six fights and at the same time putting in big hits on players all over the league.
Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers faced the Capitals at Capital One Arena. But the Flyers, known throughout history to be a team with plenty of power and grit, wasn’t going to stand in Tom Wilsons way.
Instead he used his ammunition from the hits and fights department and went at them hard.
Five minutes in, Wilson put up the first big hit of the night, throwing Justin Braun into the boards. And late in the first, he engaged in a fight with Nate Thompson.
One could think that Wilson would be done by then. But no, there was plenty more to come.
Late in the middle frame, Wilson tried hitting captain Claude Giroux at the boards but just missed. Flyers’ defenseman Robert Hagg didn’t like what he saw, and the two dropped the mitts
Two fights in two periods, which was his 4th and 5th of the season, and Wilson was done for the night.
This was only the second time in his career Tom Wilson has been involved in a multi-fight game, according to hockeyfights.com.
Even though he’s proven to be a fighter and a hard hitting winger, Wilson’s also produced numbers this year with a career-high 42 points in 65 games.
