The crowd at The Coliseum witnessed a scary incident last night. Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuck got the skate of Artturi Lehkonens straight to his face and rushed off the ice in panic.
Coach Barry Trotz didn’t have an update on Boychuck after the game.
The Canadiens defeated the Islanders 6-2 at the Coliseum last night, with the Long Island team suffering their 4th straight loss.
But the result was not the talking point postgame, with a scary incident involving Johnny Boychuck being more important.
In the middle of the third period, Artturi Lehkonen stumbled in front of the Canadiens goal and fell to the ground which caused one of his legs to pop up. Behind him, Islanders Johnny Boychuck was standing up, getting Lehkonens skate straight in his face.
The 13-year veteran fell to the ice but quickly darted of the ice and went straight to the locker room.
The injury was scary, and after the game Barry Trotz couldn’t provide an update of the state of Boychuck who’s still being evaluated.
NBC Sports Joe Haggerty reports that he got a cut from the blade to his eyelid rather than straight to the eye.
It sure could’ve been way more serious, according to the reports. And no matter what team you support, you never want to see a player get injured. Especially when it comes to a situation that could mean being scared for life.
Johnny Boychuck has played 63 games for the Islanders this year and scored 11 points.
