The Toronto Maple Leafs are are considering trading defenceman Tyson Barrie, according to TSN Insider Trading.
The Maple Leafs could move the blueliner before the Monday trade deadline, with plenty of teams calling.
“When those teams called, the Maple Leafs basically told those teams that were interested “yeah you know what, we would consider it under the right set of circumstances'”, Bob McKenzie said on the TSN Insider Trading segment.
According to McKenzie, there are two different outcomes if the Maple Leafs decide to trade Barrie.
“They have to get a defenseman coming back that makes them a better team right nw because they still want tot make the playoffs”, McKenzie said. “Or they have to get picks and prospect that they could immediately turn around and parley into that mythical unicorn right shot defenceman that they are looking to play with Morgan Rielly.”
Barrie arrived to Toronto last summer as part of the Nazem Kadri deal but hasn’t been a great fit.
He’s scored five goals and tallied 33 points this season. The last couple of season the blueliner has put up 57 and 59 points.
Several teams has called, with Vancouver being one of them according to TSN.
There’s been talks on a potential move for Canucks’ defenceman Troy Stecher. Whether or not he could be on the move to Toronto in a package deal with Barrie heading the opposite direction, time will tell.
