If there’s one place Milan Lucic got some great memories of, it’s Rogers Place in Vancouver. Back in 2011, the star forward got go hoist the Stanley Cup in front of the Canucks fans after a thrilling seven game series, ending with the Bruins winning game seven 4-0.
The Vancouver fans showed their disappointment after the game, setting cars and garbage cans on fire, turning downtown into a riot.
“It’s absolutely disgraceful and shameful and by no means represents the city of Vancouver. … We have had an extraordinary run in the playoff, great celebration. What’s happened tonight is despicable,” Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson told ESPN.
Milan Lucic’s been back at Rogers Place several times since. But before the game last weekend, he made sure to remind the fans about the special night in 2011.
And he did it in savage fashion.
“Obviously every time you come in the dressing room, it’s great. I try to look for the champagne stains on the ceiling”, Lucic said according to NHL writer Amalie Benjamin.
So how did he do? Well, Vancouver-born Lucic showed the crowed he still has it in him, putting up one goal and one assist in a 6-2 win.
