The Amelie Arena went quiet with minutes to go in the third period the Penguins. Steven Stamkos released a slap shot which deflected directly into John Marinos face, who dropped to the ice.
Marino stayed down on the ice with a team doctor rushing on. He was brought out to the locker room. After the game, head coach Mike Sullivan said that Marino still was being evaluated.
Late last night, several news outlets reports that Marino didn’t get seriously injured. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 22 year old defenceman survived the slap shot without any larger injurys and only needed a couple of stitches.
The Penguins acquired Marino from the Edmonton Oilers last summer. The rookie’s put up impressive numbers with 25 points in his first 51 games this season.
Tampa Bay went on to win the game 4-2 with defenceman Viktor Hedman recording three assists.
