The Los Angeles Kings probably thought they had Alexander Ovechkin under control last night.
“That’s cute”, the Russian superstar probably thought, and moved on by scoring his third hattrick in six games.
Alexander Ovechkin is climbing up the NHL all time goals scoring list. He recently pushed ahead of Mario Lemieux with his 691st goal.
Against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, Ovechkin left the ice goalless. And last night at home, the Los Angeles Kings probably thought they had him under control for the second straight game.
With less than seven minutes left to play, he suddenly erupted.
Ovechkin scored three straight goals leading the Capitals to a 4-2 win, and the stats behind it are insane.
The hattrick cemented him as the first player in the NHL to score 40 goals this season, the ninth time in his career, and he’s now only two goals shy of becoming the 8th player in league history to reach 700 regular-season career goals.
Nothing can stop Ovechkin at the moment. He’s scored 14 goals in his last 7 game, including three hattricks in his last six. Take a bow!
