Mike Matheson of the Florida Panthers has been suspended for two games after his interference/unsportsmanlike conduct on Elias Pettersson.
Pettersson was up-ended by Matheson. Pettersson was thrown to the ice and left the weekend matchup between the clubs. He did not return during the contest.
Matheson is a first time offender from a suspension standpoint. He will miss tomorrow’s game against Philadelphia and Friday’s contest against Washington. Matheson is eligible to return to action Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings.
As we know, Pettersson is currently with the Canucks on a road trip but will miss the next 7-10 days at a minimum. It is unclear when Pettersson will return to action as he will be re-evulauted upon his return to Vancouver.
