After splitting the first two games in Vegas, the Capitals won back-to-back home games to take a 3-1 stranglehold on the Stanley Cup Final.
You could tell what kind of game it was going to be for the Golden Knights early on. James Neal had the puck right in front of a yawning net but hit the post. Just a few minutes later, Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
After that, it was all Washington. The Capitals made it 3-0 before the end of the first period. The Golden Knights brought it back to 4-2 in the third, but the Capitals added a couple more insurance goals to ultimately take the game 6-2. This is the first time all playoffs — all season, really — that the Golden Knights have faced any adversity and you could tell they aren’t used to it.
That wasn’t all though. The game got very chippy in the dying minutes. Brayden McNabb crushed T.J. Oshie with a questionable hit in the final minutes of the game. Oshie ended up getting the boot from the game. While he was being taken off the ice, fans started to chant his name.
The Capitals are now just one win away from winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. If they can pull it off, Alexander Ovechkin will become the first-ever Russian to captain his team to the Stanley Cup. That said, if anyone can come back from down 3-1 in the Cup Final, it’s the fly-by-night Golden Knights.
