The series between the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche is heated, to say the least. During Game Five in Dallas last night, Stars captain Jamie Benn took a stick to the face from the Avalanche’s Josh Manson. However, NHL fans are now calling Benn out for embellishment.
One of the most talked-about details in the series is, of course, Mikko Rantanen facing his former teammates and friends on the Colorado Avalanche. During Game Five, Rantanen scored his first goal against his former team in a 6–2 win, giving the Stars a 3–2 lead in the series. The game saw a flurry of penalties in the final two minutes after a scrum broke out. However, what fans are most upset about is the penalty assessed to Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson against Jamie Benn.
Jamie Benn accused of embellishment
Early in the third period, Stars captain—and well-known tough guy—Jamie Benn was skating past Josh Manson. In the sequence, TV viewers could see Benn skating into Manson’s stick. But the referees saw it differently, and Manson was sent to the penalty box. Now, NHL fans across the league are accusing Benn of embellishment.
“It hits him in the shoulder too. Not even a high stick,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“This is a disgrace,” another added.
