The Stanley Cup Playoffs have already delivered a handful of memorable moments, despite only being underway for a few days. In the Eastern Conference, the Carolina Hurricanes hold a 2–0 lead over the young and talented New Jersey Devils after two straight home wins. During the second game last night, Brent Burns found himself in a situation with former Sharks teammate Timo Meier—and he chose to show Meier just how badly he wants to win.

Brent Burns headbutts Timo Meier

It was right at the buzzer of the second period when Brent Burns and Meier were battling for the puck, and Burns decided to headbutt his former teammate. Meier threw his head back in pain while Burns smiled his big, toothless smile. Now, comments on social media are claiming that Meier exaggerated. However, an attempted headbutt warrants a double minor penalty, while an actual headbutt is a major penalty and a game misconduct.
“Nice Euro soccer flop,” one person writes on X.
“Thoughts and prayers for Meier in these trying times. Hope he’ll be back by next year,” another writes.
