Gavin McKenna pulls off a Michigan in playoff game

Gavin McKenna, 17, is expected to be drafted first overall in the 2026 NHL Draft. Currently, the talented forward is playing playoff hockey in the WHL. Last night, he truly showcased his skill set with a highlight-reel goal.

Since Connor Bedard, no young hockey player has generated as much buzz as 17-year-old Gavin McKenna. The Yukon native has posted astonishing numbers in his two and a half seasons in the WHL. This past regular season, he recorded 41 goals and 88 assists for 129 points in 56 games.

McKenna and his Medicine Hat Tigers are currently facing the Prince Albert Raiders in the second round of the playoffs. In Game 3 of the series yesterday, McKenna once again proved why he’s the talk of the hockey world—even though he isn’t draft eligible for another year. In the Tigers’ 6–1 win, McKenna scored an absolute screamer to make it 5–1.

Leading his team

Just over a minute into the third period, he entered the offensive zone, took the puck, went behind the net, and pulled off a “Michigan.” Scoring top shelf from behind the net, he completely caught the Raiders’ defense off guard. McKenna’s Medicine Hat Tigers now lead the best-of-seven second-round series 4–0. You can watch the goal in the video below.
