Rasmus Dahlin fires back at Paul Bissonnette over recent reports

Paul Bissonnette sparked rumors about Rasmus Dahlin with a stunning claim. Now, the Swedish star defenseman fires back, saying he was “pissed off” by BizNasty’s words.

Rasmus Dahlin became the first No. 1 overall NHL Entry Draft pick from Sweden since Mats Sundin when the Buffalo Sabres selected him in 2018. He entered the league with enormous expectations, and so far, he hasn’t disappointed. Dahlin is one of the NHL’s top defensemen, but he has yet to play a single playoff game.

The Sabres’ playoff drought doesn’t seem close to ending anytime soon. The team holds the longest active postseason dry spell in the NHL at 13 seasons. Earlier this week, Buffalo’s playoff odds for the 2024-25 season officially dropped to 0%. And new reports suggest Dahlin has had enough.

Rasmus Dahlin slams BizNasty

On a recent episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Paul Bissonnette claimed Dahlin had requested a meeting with GM Kevyn Adams, where he planned to demand a trade if the team didn’t turn things around—and fast. But on Tuesday, Dahlin responded to the rumors, strongly denying them and firing back at Bissonnette.
“I don’t know what he’s talking about. I have never said I want out of here,” Dahlin said. “I’m not happy with where we’re at. I don’t want to lose. We have to get better. I’ve never said I want out of here—I thought that was pretty clear.”
Dahlin added, “That bugs me, actually. I get pissed off by that. I haven’t even mentioned the word ‘leave.’ That’s just how it is.”

Last September, Dahlin was named captain of the Sabres, and he’s currently in the first season of an eight-year, $88 million contract. With 51 points this season, he ranks fourth among NHL defensemen.
