Brad Marchand has arrived in Florida. He met with the media for the first time since his shocking trade from the Boston Bruins, and it didn’t take long for Sam Bennett to hilariously reveal Marchand’s very first message in the team’s group chat—and absolutely no one was surprised.
Marchand spent his entire 16-year NHL career with the Bruins, serving as the team’s captain for the last two seasons. Still, given how openly he had expressed his desire to retire in Boston, a trade seemed unlikely—until it wasn’t.
The Bruins began exploring trade options on Friday, and by the end of the day, they had reached a deal with the Florida Panthers, sending Marchand to Sunrise for the remainder of the season. What happens this summer remains uncertain, as his current contract is set to expire.

On Monday, Marchand met with the media in Fort Lauderdale for the first time as a Panther. He didn’t hold back when talking about how much the Bruins have meant to him and how proud he is of everything they accomplished together.
Now, fans are eager to see Marchand—often referred to as the NHL’s biggest rat—playing alongside gritty players like Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk. Bennett also spoke to the media on Monday, revealing how Marchand wasted no time making an impression in the team’s group chat.
“As soon as we added him, he was chirping,” Bennett said. “His first message was a chirp. Right away. You love that. It breaks the ice. That’s just who he is, and we’re excited to have that personality here.”
