Connor McDavid misses big hit on Trevor Zegras

Playing against Connor McDavid—the fastest skater in the world—is no easy task. But in Tuesday’s game between the Oilers and the Ducks, Trevor Zegras reacted quickly when McDavid tried to land a hit on him—and the result was a hilarious moment.

There’s not much to say about Connor McDavid that hasn’t been said already. He’s widely acknowledged as the best player in the world and can create magic out of nowhere every time he steps onto the ice. He’s the second-highest point scorer in Edmonton Oilers franchise history, and just a few weeks ago, he won the 4 Nations Face-Off for Canada with an OT goal against the United States.

McDavid had a great tournament, scoring two goals in the final, but now he’s back in the NHL—and he hasn’t lost a step. In Tuesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, he tallied a goal and an assist, bringing his season total to 77 points through 55 games. But he also had a not-so-flattering moment when he tried to lay a big hit on Trevor Zegras.

Connor McDavid missed hit on Zegras

Zegras had the puck in the offensive zone, just past the blue line, looking for a teammate. He took his time, standing beside the Oilers’ bench, when McDavid saw an opportunity to deliver a big check. But just as Connor McDavid got there, Zegras spotted him at the last second and moved out of the way. McDavid, already at full speed, couldn’t stop his forward momentum—sending himself over the boards and straight into his own bench.

It was a hilarious sight, especially considering McDavid’s status as the best player in the world, and the clip quickly went viral. To make things worse for Connor McDavid and the Oilers, the Ducks held a three-goal lead at the time.
“Oh, he’s not going to hear the end of that one lol,” one user said on social media.
“That must feel worse than being down three to the Ducks,” another added.
“I’ve watched this 10 times already, and it gets funnier every time,” a third wrote.
