Wyatt Johnston scored his third career hat trick against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. In his postgame interview with the NHL on TNT crew, he had everyone smiling with the most wholesome words about his mom.
Scoring an NHL hat trick is always special, and every player who records one should feel lucky. Wyatt Johnston of the Dallas Stars is only 21 years old, but on Sunday, he notched the third hat trick of his young career. Johnston, who is on pace for the best season of his career, scored his previous hat trick on March 5, 2024—which just so happened to be on his dad’s birthday.
On Sunday, it was his mom’s birthday, and naturally, she jokingly asked him to score a hat trick for her, just as he had for his father last year. Coincidentally, he made her wish come true. Dallas went a perfect 4-for-4 on the power play against the Blues, securing a 6-3 win.
Wyatt Johnston’s adorable words
Wyatt Johnston had the best night of anyone on the team, netting three goals for his third career hat trick—and, of course, fulfilling that promise to his mom.
During his postgame interview with the NHL on TNT crew, Johnston immediately gave his mom a shout-out for her birthday, creating one of the most heartwarming moments of the season so far.
“One last thing, I gotta give a shout-out to my mom—it’s her birthday today,” Wyatt Johnston said.
“She was asking me for a hatty. I got one on my dad’s birthday last year, so she told me it was time to get one for her this year.”
