It’s really special to see your son make his NHL debut. When Kim Sebrango saw her son, Donovan Sebrango, on his rookie lap, emotions took over, and fans loved the wholesome footage of her reaction.
Donovan Sebrango was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, selected in the third round, 63rd overall. Though he never got the chance to play in the NHL with the Red Wings, his dream came true on Thursday, four and a half years after being drafted.
He finally played his first NHL game. At the Canadian Tire Centre, as is customary for any rookie, Sebrango skated alone during the warm-up’s “rookie lap.” His mother was in attendance, and cameras captured her heartfelt reaction to seeing her son make his NHL debut. Kim could be seen cheering loudly, overwhelmed with joy and emotions as she watched her son on the ice.

The video of Kim Sebrango’s emotional reaction quickly went viral, with fans everywhere sharing the moment. She was also interviewed by TSN during the game, where she shared more about her feelings.
“It was just so unbelievable,” Kim told TSN, per NHL.com. “Oh my god, to think that moment happened here—it’s one of the greatest moments of my life. I don’t even know how to put it into words.”
Donovan Sebrango dedicated his debut to his mother.
“A single mom who had to teach me the ways of hockey and bring me into the sport—this lap was for her,” Sebrango said. “Everything tonight was for her… She’s the reason I’m here. Getting her into the building was something special. It’s probably the best day of my life so far. It’s just a special moment, and it’s all because of her.”
