It’s been a special couple of days for the Carolina Hurricanes, their players, fans, and even former players. To celebrate raising Eric Staal’s #12 to the rafters, they also arranged an alumni game, where the legend Rod Brind’Amour made fans go wild with an unbelievable goal.
Eric Staal finished his career with the Florida Panthers but is most remembered for his many years in Carolina. He was drafted second overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and made his debut that same year.
Staal won the Stanley Cup with the Canes in 2006, and ahead of the 2009-10 season, he was named captain of the team. Staal stayed with the Hurricanes until 2016, when he was traded to the New York Rangers, and this past weekend, his number 12 jersey was raised to the rafters of PNC Arena.
Rod Brind’Amour’s awesome goal
On Monday, the celebrations for Staal continued, as the Hurricanes held a team alumni game, where some of the organization’s greatest players of all time, along with some of Staal’s former teammates, took part. But although it wasn’t that long ago that Staal retired, it was Rod Brind’Amour who stole the show in the game.
He’s currently the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, and despite being 54 years old, he can still produce some magic. During the game, Brind’Amour scored a highlight-reel goal, dangling the defense before scoring an absolute beauty. The video of the goal went viral on social media, with everyone amazed by the level of skill displayed by this true legend of the game! Check it out for yourself:
