Things went from bad to worse to even worse for Mason Marchment in Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. His series of unfortunate events—three in a matter of seconds—quickly went viral, with everyone laughing at the poor guy.
Anything can happen in the NHL. The quick pace of play and intensity lead to some hilarious incidents, and on Wednesday, Mason Marchment just couldn’t catch a break. Waiting for a lobbed puck in the Stars’ offensive zone and facing the neutral zone, Marchment was suddenly cross-checked in the back by Conor Timmins.
The cross-check was rough and looked painful, naturally sending Marchment to the ice. But that was just the beginning of his bad luck. As he fell, the lobbed puck he had been waiting for struck him in the head before he had a chance to see it coming.

Tempers flared after the hit, but Marchment, clearly in pain, just tried to get up without joining the scrum. Even that didn’t go as planned—when he leaned on his stick for support, it broke under his weight, causing him to fall back to the ice.
A video of the three unlucky events in seconds quickly went viral. While a cross-check to the back is no laughing matter, fans couldn’t stop laughing at the absurd series of events.
Marchment later left the game against the Maple Leafs. It’s unclear if the incident with Timmins was a factor. The Stars have been dealing with a flu bug in the locker room, so Marchment may have felt unwell, but the cross-check can’t be ruled out as a cause.
