Macklin Celebrini has been a sensation in his first NHL season. On Monday, he was named the NHL’s first star of the week—and his reaction was absolutely priceless.
Celebrini, selected first overall in this summer’s NHL Entry Draft, has lived up to the hype. Despite missing most of October due to a hip injury suffered in his NHL debut, he has bounced back impressively.
In just 15 games, the rookie has tallied 14 points. Celebrini is currently third in points among rookies this season, trailing only Buffalo Sabres’ Logan Stankoven and Philadelphia Flyers’ Matvei Michkov, who has impressed with 19 points in 23 games.
Macklin Celebrini’s hilarious response
Since Celebrini’s return, the Sharks have gone 6-5-3, with much of their success fueled by his offensive contributions. Last week, Celebrini played four games and recorded seven points, earning him the NHL’s first star of the week. When reporters informed him of the honor on Monday, his reaction was legendary.
“Holy f–ck, I didn’t know that,” Celebrini said, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
The Sharks, currently 9-13-5, have shown significant improvement since Celebrini returned to the lineup. He and the team are focused on continuing their strong play.
“We’re obviously playing pretty good hockey right now as a team,” Celebrini said.
“We’ve won some big games where we’re playing a really good team game. We’re trying to stick to our identity, and things have been going pretty good for all of us.”
