Vegas Golden Knights’ hilarious posts about Alex Ovechkin

What Alex Ovechkin is doing right now is nothing short of incredible. At 39 years old, he scored his 31st career hat trick on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights and currently leads the NHL in scoring.

For Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, this season is largely about the Russian superstar’s chase for Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record.

After a slow start to last season, Ovechkin picked up the pace in the latter half, and he’s started the 2024-25 campaign in inspiring fashion.

Ovechkin leads the league in goals

He entered Sunday’s contest against Vegas 31 goals behind The Great One but is now within 28. His 13 goals also place him in a three-way tie for the league lead alongside Sam Reinhart and Leon Draisaitl.

Ovechkin has scored 11 goals in his last 10 games and has 13 in 17 games this season, putting him on pace for 63 goals and 111 points.

Everyone knows Ovechkin’s iconic status as a goal-scorer. When he eventually breaks Gretzky’s record—which increasingly looks like it will happen this season—he will deserve all the accolades coming his way.

However, the Vegas Golden Knights seemed a bit fed up with all the attention he’s getting when he opened the scoring in Sunday’s game.

Vegas’ hilarious posts about Ovechkin

After Ovechkin made it 1-0, the Golden Knights’ official X account posted a cheeky comment that quickly went viral, earning over 8,000 likes:

“Alex Ovechkin’s 1 millionth career goal makes it 1-0.”

Fans found the humor hilarious, and when Ovechkin scored his second goal to make it 4-2 for the Capitals, the Golden Knights followed up with:

“His 1,000,001st goal makes it 4-2 Caps.”

Finally, when Ovechkin completed his hat trick, they simply wrote:

“1,000,002.”
