It’s not unusual for goalies to switch during a game. Being an NHL goalie is a tough job, and everyone needs a break now and then. The backup goalie often steps in if the starter allows too many goals or just has an off night. But during Sunday’s game between the Ottawa Senators and the Colorado Avalanche, we saw something truly unusual, with some even saying they’ve never seen anything like it.
The Senators started Anton Forsberg in goal against the Avalanche, but he was forced to leave the game due to an issue with his skate blade that fell off.
The staff tried to fix it immediately but couldn’t, which sent Linus Ullmark onto the ice. Ullmark played for only 17 seconds, yet he managed to make a couple of good saves before Forsberg could return.

However, Forsberg only stayed on the ice for another minute and 28 seconds before experiencing trouble with his skate again. Ullmark—again!—came off the bench to take his place.
This time, he stayed in net for about four minutes before Forsberg returned, marking the Senators’ fourth goalie switch of the night. Fortunately, Forsberg was able to play the rest of the game without further issues.

When the entire sequence aired on the TV broadcast, even the commentators couldn’t help but laugh. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman posted on X, saying he had never seen anything like it.
