The Boston Bruins were hoping to get some revenge on the Florida Panthers in the 2024-25 season-opener in Florida. The Panthers eliminated the Bruins on their way to winning the Stanley Cup last year in a series with much controversy and emotion.
The first game of the regular season this time around was no different, with serveral incidents that had fans riled up. Trent Frederic dropped the gloves with Matthew Tkachuk (who didn’t do the same), and new Bruins forward Max Jones accidentaly slashed a referee in an attempt to make a swing at Evan Rodrigues’ stick.
But the perhaps most memorable moment of the game came from the Panthers fans, making some fun at Jonas Korpisalo’s expense.

The Finnish goalie got the start in the season-opener, and he didn’t have the best game. He conceded his fifth goal in the second period as the Panthers were up 5-1, and as the Bruins desperately tried to get back into the game, the cant ’We Want Swayman!’ was heard from the fans.
The Panthers fans, of course, referred to the Bruins’ all-star goalie, who was on the bench as a backup on Tuesday after signing a new contract with the team on Sunday. After several months of intensive negotiations, Swayman’s new contract was inked just days before the regular season, which caused him to miss the training camp and pre-season games.

For Bruins’ sake, it’s important that Swayman gets into match form as soon as possible, as Korpisalo’s season-opener was far from convincing. And the Panthers fans’ well-timed chant mocking him and the Bruins immediately went viral, with fans of other NHL teams finding it absolutely hilarious.
