The Boston Bruins didn’t have the best start to the new season, although they faced the toughest opponents right now. In the first two periods of Tuesday’s game, the Bruins were outplayed by the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, and after 20 minutes played, they were down 4-1.
The Panthers eliminated the Bruins from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in May earlier this year, and as they were headed for another loss in the season-opener, frustration was increasing. And it eventually led to a nasty moment for new Bruins forward Max Jones.

Late in the second period, with the Panthers leading 5-2, Jones was in a scrum with Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues, and he made an attempt to slash Rodrigues’ stick. But in an unfortunate turn of events, he completely missed and instead slashed the referee’s hand. Jones went over to the referee immediately to check if he was okay, and it seemed obvious that this was nothing but a mistake, during a tough game.
Jones was, of course, handed a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The Panthers didn’t take advantage of the following powerplay, but Evan Rodrigues scored 6 minutes into the third period to make it a 6-2 game.

The Bruins eventually lost 6-4 after an okay third period, but most fans will remember Max Jones’ debut game and his nasty slashing against a referee. Fans seem absolutely certain that he’ll be suspended for what he did.
”All you have to do is fucking NOT slash anyone in zebra stripes,” one user said on social media.
”I’ve never seen quicker instant regret,” another said.
