Connor McDavid is widely acknowledged as the best player on the planet, and when he retires, he will arguably go down as one of the best players in the sport’s history. The Oilers’ captain led his team to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, and Edmonton is the odds favorite to win the Cup in the upcoming season.
Connor McDavid scores goals for fun, and last season, he joined the elite company of only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr to record 100 assists in a season. On the ice, there are not many things scaring McDavid, but off the ice, it seems like Connor has an obvious kryptonite: Ketchup.
Connor McDavid is one of the stars in the Prime Video series Faceoff: Inside the NHL, premiering this Friday. Lauren Kyle, Connor’s wife, also features in the series.

According to media reports, the series takes viewers inside McDavid and Kyle’s home in Edmonton, showing how an ordinary day in their life is. In the fifth episode of the series, their private chef Sheridan McLaren is also featured, and that’s when Lauren Kyle reveals her husband’s weakness.
As it turns out, Connor McDavid is so afraid of ketchup—one of the most used condiments in the world—that he simply refuses to have it on the table. It’s gone so far that McDavid’s private chef has to sneak ketchup to Lauren.
”Connor is afraid of ketchup. So Sheridan, he always, like, sneakily brings it over to me, because he knows I like it,” Kyle revealed in the series.

The series not only includes scenes from McDavid’s day-to-day life with his wife but also a unique viewing of what really happened in the Oilers’ locker room during the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, and a few sneak peeks have already disclosed that McDavid was far from happy during some of the losses.
As always, it’s incredible to see some behind-the-scenes stuff from the world’s best players, and we can only imagine that McDavid will be hearing some chirps about ketchup from both players and opposing fans during this upcoming season, with the regular season kicking off with the Global Series in Prague, Czechia, this Friday.
