At the moment, the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is being played in Prague, Czech Republic, and there’s plenty of stars in the tournament.
Earlier this week, Johnny Gaudreau rewrote USA hockey history, recording his 43rd point in tournament history for most in the US’s history.
In the same game, Brady Tkachuk scored a hattrick, and in Team Canada, Jordan Binnington plays in goal, and rookie phenom Connor Bedard lights up the offense.
Now, David Pastrnak will join the Czech Republic after getting eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Team Sweden has defensive superstars like Erik Karlsson, Victor Hedman, and Rasmus Dahlin.
For those watching the tournament, a special camera has brought viewers closer than ever to the players.
The referee cameras were used for the first time in the World Championship in 2018, and they always bring a lot of content.
The cameras are placed on the referees’ helmets, making it possible to hear what they are saying to the players, as well as what the players are saying to each other and when talking with the officials.
This weekend, a montage of the best ref cam moments so far for this tournament went viral in the hockey parts of social media, and fans absolutely loved it.
It also led to everyone asking the exact same question: How is this not in the NHL!?
On social media, everyone shared their favorite part of the video, including a referee telling two players before a faceoff, ’Stop slashing each other.’
Overall, everyone just loved being able to watch everything go down so closely, and especially hearing how things sound down on ice level.
”It’s stuff like this that makes me love the sport of hockey,” one said.
”Need to do this more often. That was awesome!! Haha,” another said.
”This is awesome, the NHL should do this,” a third added.
