Jaromir Jagr is still going strong. On Thursday, he was back in action for his club, Kladno, as they try to avoid being relegated from the Czech Extraliga.
Kladno is playing a team from a lower division in a best-of-seven series to see who plays in the top division next year.
Jaromir Jagr hadn’t played since February, as he’s had other commitments, such as a jersey retirement in Pittsburgh.
But when his team needs him, he steps up, and that’s just what happened on Thursday.
Kladno had lost the first game of the series, but in Jagr’s return, he only needed minutes in Game 2 to score.
He tapped in a nice feed from Jakub Strnad, a former Oshawa General’s player, to make it 1-0.
It wasn’t just an important goal for Kladno but a special one for Jagr as well. With the goal, he became the oldest player to ever score in a professional hockey game.
With his 52 years and 63 days, he surpassed the one and only Gordie Howe, who set the previous record in his final NHL games on April 11, 1980. Gordie was, at that time, 52 years and 11 days.
Jagr also had an assist in the game, which Kladno won 7-2. It was his first goal of the season after he recorded four assists in 15 games during the regular season.
Jagr, one of the all-time greats, has the second-most points in NHL history, with 1,921. Throughout his career, which includes play in Russia, Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic, he’s recorded a whopping 2,671 points.
With that, he still has around 200 points to record until he catches Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 2,857.
