The Pittsburgh Penguins are still in the playoffs race, and much of it has to do with Sidney Crosby.
Despite being 36, Crosby has put on a show all year long. Earlier this month, he clinched his 19th point-per-game season, tied with Wayne Gretzky for the most in NHL history.
Crosby is on pace for 90 points and has singlehandedly gotten Pittsburgh back in the race for a wildcard spot.
He was at the center of attention again when Pittsburgh played the Toronto Maple Leafs, with one assist to the Pens’ 2-2 goal late in the third period. The Penguins earned a point in the game but lost in overtime.
They now have a nine-game point streak, and Crosby has been a force in those games.
It’s obvious to everyone how much Crosby wants to make the playoffs, and it’s almost like he refuses to lose a game at the moment.
Crosby was involved in several incidents in Monday’s game that proved how much he wants to win. He had three eventful shifts in a row in the second period that first forced him into the locker room for skate repairs.
When he returned, he took a puck to the face, and not long after, he was in a massive collision with Auston Matthews.
Still, he managed to get the Pens back into the game with an assist, but he also had time to be absolutely furious with one of the referees.
Just before the 2-2 goal, Crosby battled for the puck along the boards in the offensive zone.
One linesman blew the whistle when Crosby was in front of the net in a great goal-scoring chance because of what he thought was a hand pass in an earlier sequence.
Crosby really, really didn’t agree with the call, and he immediately skated towards the referee.
You don’t have to be a professional lip reader to see what he said. The video of Crosby’s harsh words to the referee quickly went viral, with everyone finding it hilarious just how obvious it was what he said.
