The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t have the best game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
They trailed 3-0 after the first period, and although Owen Tippet scored just 1:42 into the second period, they weren’t close to upsetting the Maple Leafs.
After Tippett’s goal, the Maple Leafs scored three unanswered goals, and Toronto eventually won 6-2.
It was a night to forget for the Philadelphia Flyers, especially for three of the four players who were on the ice during a penalty kill in the third period, which led to a goal from Matthew Knies.
It was the Flyers’ second straight game without suspended head coach John Tortorella on the bench, after receiving a two-game suspension and a $50,000 fine, after refusing to leave the bench after getting tossed from a game against the Lightning last week.
We can’t imagine Torts being happy when he saw the Flyers PK on Thursday in a play that had everyone laughing.
In the dying moments of a Toronto powerplay, Timothy Liljegren had two shots that hid Flyers players’ sticks.
That led to two of the four Philly players on the PK being without a stick. But to make things worse, it only took a few seconds until a third realized his stick was broken.
75 percent of the Flyers’ PK unit was without a stick, and it didn’t help that the Flyers got a fifth man out.
The Maple Leafs could easily pass the puck around the stick-less Flyers players, and eventually, Knies could slot the puck into an empty net after a great pass across the ice from Max Domi.
The video quickly went viral, with everyone finding it funny, and it really proved what a great sport hockey is. Anything can happen, that’s for sure!
