What a moment we saw in Edmonton on Wednesday.
The Oilers have stars like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman, who dominate opponents with goals and assists night in and night out.
But against the Capitals Wednesday, Oilers winger Connor Brown scored his first goal of the season.
Brown signed a one-year contract with the Oilers this summer, and it took him 55 games until he scored his first with the organization.
In the third period against the Caps, Evander Kane threw the puck his way, and Brown was hit by it off a bounce, and it went into the net.
It was a relief for Brown, and all the fans in attendance understood it. The Rogers Place erupted in the perhaps loudest cheer this season, and fans saluted Brown by throwing their hats on the ice.
He was also given a standing ovation for a few minutes. Connor Brown’s goalless drought ended at 88 shots on goal, the second most shots before a goal in a season of all time.
Postgame, Brown was thankful for the fans’ reaction.
“It meant a lot,” Brown said. “They’re aware of storylines… it’s been a struggle this year offensively, I haven’t been able to get one to go and so, you know obviously for their kind of support to shine through there, they’re rooting for me so that’s a good feeling.”
